The High-Energy Contractor: Why Your Fitness is the Secret to Surviving a 60-Hour Week

You know the feeling. It’s 4:30 PM on a Thursday, you’ve been on job sites since dawn, your phone hasn’t stopped buzzing with client demands, and your crew is looking to you for the next move. But your brain feels like it’s wrapped in wet insulation. You’re dragging, you’re irritable, and that 60-hour week you’ve been pulling for three months straight is finally starting to win.

Most contractors and home service owners think the solution is just "grinding harder." They think that if they just drink another coffee and push through the fatigue, they’ll get to the other side.

But here’s the truth: your business will only ever be as strong as the person running it. If your body is redlining, your leadership is going to stall.

I’ve spent my career working with relentless entrepreneurs: people who don't just want a "job," but want to dominate their market. And time and time again, I see the same pattern. The ones who thrive aren't just the smartest or the best at their trade; they are the ones who have the physical stamina to stay sharp when everyone else is fading.

In my coaching, I don’t treat your health as a hobby. I treat it as a high-performance business strategy. If you want to survive the 60-hour week and actually HAVE a life left over to enjoy, you have to kick your fitness into gear.

The Leadership Presence: Sweat Equity at the Job Site

Leadership isn't just about what you say; it’s about how you show up. When you walk onto a job site or into a high-stakes sales meeting, people are reading your energy.

If you look exhausted, slumped, and physically drained, you’re communicating a lack of control. But when you’re physically fit, you carry a different kind of "swagger." You have a grounded, capable presence that tells your crew and your customers that you can handle the tough stuff.

Regular physical activity improves your concentration, memory, and learning speed. When you’re "sweating it out" in the gym, you aren't just building muscle; you’re building mental resilience. You’re training your brain to stay focused under pressure. That’s the difference between making a snap decision that costs you $5,000 in materials and making a calculated call that keeps the project on track.

Training for the Job, Not for the Stage

I get it. You don’t have two hours to spend at the gym every day. You have a business to run, leads to follow up on, and a family that wants to see you occasionally. The good news? You don’t need to be a marathon runner or a pro bodybuilder to see the results in your bank account.

You need to train for efficiency. I’m a big believer in functional, high-intensity movements that mirror the physical demands of the home services industry. Think of your fitness like your business systems: it should be high-impact and low-waste.

The "Contractor's Quick-Hit" Routine

If you’re pressed for time, focus on compound movements. These are exercises that work multiple muscle groups at once, giving you the biggest "bang for your buck."

  1. Kettlebell Swings: Perfect for building that core and lower back strength you need for long days on your feet.
  2. Rowing: Great for cardiovascular endurance without the high impact of running on asphalt.
  3. Burpees: The ultimate "no-equipment" way to get your heart rate up and build total-body stamina.
  4. The 15-Minute HIIT: 30 seconds of max effort, 30 seconds of rest. Do it for 15 minutes before you head to the shop.

These short, focused sessions deliver meaningful gains in energy and focus without eating up your entire morning. It’s about building the engine that can handle a 10-hour day and still have enough gas in the tank to play with the kids or work on your GMB (Google Business Profile) strategy in the evening.

My Journey: From Strongman to Strategy

I’ve always seen the synergy between physical strength and business success. Before I was helping contractors scale to seven figures, I was competing in strongman events, lifting atlas stones and testing the absolute limits of my body.

That period of my life taught me more about business than any textbook ever could. It taught me that when things get heavy, you don't quit: you adjust your stance, you breathe, and you find a way to move the weight.

That’s the same mentality I bring to my coaching today. Whether it’s co-authoring "Flip The Script" with Chris Voss or helping a local Knoxville contractor automate their lead follow-up, the foundation is the same: resilience. If you can handle the physical strain of a heavy lift, you can handle the mental strain of a scaling business.

Why Fitness is Your Best Retention Tool

Most contractors struggle with one thing more than anything else: finding and keeping good people.

When you prioritize your health, you set a standard for your company culture. You’re showing your team that excellence isn't just about the work you produce: it’s about the people you ARE. A high-energy leader creates a high-energy team.

When you’re fit, you’re more reliable. You take fewer sick days, you have fewer "off" days, and you’re more consistent in your leadership. In an industry where reliability is the number one competitive advantage, your fitness is literally a profit-driver.

Scaling the Engine with the Market Dominance Blueprint (MDB)

Once you’ve got your physical engine running, it’s time to point that energy in the right direction. You can have all the stamina in the world, but if your business systems are leaking leads, you’re just running fast on a treadmill.

This is where my Market Dominance Blueprint (MDB) comes in. Just like a well-designed workout plan, the MDB gives you the step-by-step structure to ensure your business grows as fast as your capacity does.

We look at your branding, your digital presence (especially your GMB), and your sales processes to make sure they are just as lean and powerful as your new workout routine. You want to reach a point where your business can scale without you having to add another 20 hours to your work week.

Are You Ready to Kick Into Gear?

You’ve been grinding long enough. It’s time to stop treating your body like an afterthought and start treating it like the foundational asset it is.

If you want to move from "busy contractor" to "successful CEO," you HAVE to have the energy to sustain the climb. You need to be healthy enough to actually enjoy the success you’re building.

Start small. Give me 15 minutes of high-intensity movement tomorrow morning. Pay attention to how much clearer your head feels by lunchtime. Once you see the connection between your body and your bottom line, you’ll never go back to the "coffee and burnout" cycle again.

Ready to see how a high-performance body can fuel a high-performance business?

Let’s talk about how we can integrate these concepts into your growth strategy. Whether you're in Knoxville or scaling a national brand, the principles remain the same: Build the body, build the brand, build the business.
